The 2024 International Dragon Boat Federation World Cup officially started in Miluo, Hunan province on Saturday, with 11 of the best dragon boat teams competing in the two-day event.

10月26日，2024第四屆國(guó)際龍舟聯(lián)合會(huì)世界杯在湖南汨羅舉辦,，本次比賽為期兩天，共有11支世界頂尖龍舟隊(duì)參賽,。

Two of the teams are from China while the remaining teams include competitors from Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom.

中國(guó)派出了兩支代表隊(duì)參賽,，其余隊(duì)伍包括來(lái)自澳大利亞、加拿大和英國(guó)的參賽者,。

The teams compete in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 500-meter race with 22 members and a helmsman, as well as the 400-meter relay and 1,000-meter relay with 12 members and a helmsman.

參賽各隊(duì)在22人龍舟100米,、200米、500米直道競(jìng)速賽及12人龍舟400米接力賽,、1000米追逐賽等賽程中進(jìn)行角逐,，總成績(jī)最好的隊(duì)伍捧杯。

The World Cup is held every two years with eligible teams that qualify with the best results. The competition is broadcasted live on China Central Television.

Meanwhile, 12 local teams from Miluo will also participate in a separate competition.

與此同時(shí),，汨羅本地的12支龍舟隊(duì)伍也將參加另一場(chǎng)競(jìng)賽項(xiàng)目,。

Dragon boat racing dates back thousands of years in Miluo, which is the origin of the traditional Dragon Boat Festival on the fifth day of May in the lunar calendar.

汨羅江畔的龍舟競(jìng)渡可追溯至數(shù)千年前，而汨羅江正是農(nóng)歷五月初五傳統(tǒng)端午節(jié)的發(fā)源地,。

One of the most popular stories of the festival's origins is that of Qu Yuan, an exiled poet and politician during the Warring States Period (475-221 BC). Upon hearing that his state, Chu, had been defeated, he committed suicide by drowning himself in the Miluo River.

追溯端午節(jié)起源,，其中最廣為人知的就是戰(zhàn)國(guó)時(shí)期的政治家、流放詩(shī)人屈原的故事,。當(dāng)他聽(tīng)說(shuō)母國(guó)楚國(guó)在戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)中被打敗后,，便投江自盡，以身殉國(guó),。

Villagers paddled out in boats to save him, however upon realizing it was too late they threw zongzi, known as glutinous rice dumplings, into the river to prevent fish from eating his body. The villagers also thrashed their paddles and beat their drums to scare the fish away.

于是村民們紛紛駕舟前往撈救,，但為時(shí)已晚，只好往江河中投擲粽子（又稱糯米粽子）以防止魚(yú)吃掉他的遺體,。村民們還揮舞船槳,，敲打著鼓用以嚇跑魚(yú)群。

Therefore, boat racing and eating sticky rice dumplings have become two of the most popularized traditions for people to commemorate the festival and Qu Yuan.

因此,，賽龍舟和吃粽子已經(jīng)成為人們紀(jì)念這個(gè)節(jié)日和屈原的兩種最普及的傳統(tǒng)習(xí)俗,。

Nowadays, boat racing is included in school physical education courses and Miluo city has included the race as one of the elected sports programs in high school entrance exams since 2022.

如今，龍舟競(jìng)賽已成為學(xué)校體育課程的一部分,，汨羅市自2022年起已將這項(xiàng)比賽列為高中入學(xué)考試的選考體育項(xiàng)目之一,。
