With a total of 212 boats taking part, a dragon boat race held in Dao county in Central China's Hunan Province, on Sunday broke the Guinness World Record for the "largest dragon boat race (team)." The county, known as China's hometown of dragon boat racing, enjoys a long history of hosting the race during China's traditional Duanwu Festival, or Dragon Boat Festival.

5月31日，由湖南道縣發(fā)起挑戰(zhàn)的“參賽人數(shù)最多的龍舟賽（團隊）”吉尼斯世界紀錄稱號，經(jīng)認定最終結(jié)果為212艘,，創(chuàng)造了新的吉尼斯世界紀錄。作為“龍舟之鄉(xiāng)”,，道縣端午賽龍舟的歷史由來已久,。

Zhou Jingzhong, Party chief of the county bureau of culture, tourism, radio, television and sports, told the Global Times on Monday that the local government is committed to carrying on the iconic tradition of dragon boat racing. "In Dao county, the dragon boat event dates back to 1,000 years ago. All the participants from around Hunan gather here during the Duanwu Festival every year for the race on the Xiaoshui River. All the boats are handmade by local paddlers," said Zhou.

道縣文旅廣體局黨組書記周鏡忠向《環(huán)球時報》表示，道縣致力于傳承賽龍舟這一標志性傳統(tǒng),?！霸诘揽h，賽龍舟的傳統(tǒng)可追溯至一千年前,。每年端午,，來自湖南各地的參賽者們都會聚集于此，參與瀟水河上的龍舟競賽,。而所有的龍舟都由道縣當?shù)氐臉质止ぶ谱鳌敝茜R忠介紹,。

Wang Jianwen, Party chief of the county's cultural center, told the Global Times that over 200 boats took part in the annual race in 2023 but it was not officially certified."It's our folk custom to host the race every year during the Duanwu Festival. The event is voluntarily organized by local residents. It's a great spectacle to showcase our shipbuilding and racing skills," said Wang.

道縣文化館黨支部書記王建文告訴《環(huán)球時報》記者，2023年（道縣）就有200多條船參加了比賽,，但未能得到官方認證,。“舉辦龍舟賽是我們每年端午節(jié)的習(xí)俗,。比賽都由當?shù)鼐用褡园l(fā)組織,。這也是展示我們造船和賽船技術(shù)的一大盛事?！蓖踅ㄎ谋硎?。

The record was previously held by Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang Province, where a national dragon boat championship held in 2015 saw 203 boat teams participate in the race.

Dao county, formerly known as Daozhou in ancient times, has a 1,000-year-old dragon boat tradition dating back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279), according to the People's Government of Hunan Province. In 2021, the county's dragon boat customs were included on the national list of intangible cultural heritage.

Meanwhile, the 2024 China Dragon Boat Open (Dao county stop) was held from May 31 to June 2 with more than 200 boats and 6,000 competitors from across the country competing in the events.

Another world record was also set in Hunan as a dragon boat in Yiyang city measuring a total length of 100.987 meters was announced as the world's "longest dragon boat" on Saturday.
湖南還創(chuàng)造了另一項世界紀錄,，益陽市一條總長100.987米的龍舟于6月1日被認定為世界上“最長的龍舟”。

The double-oared dragon boat made by the villagers of Beian New Village smashed the previous record of 87.3 meters in length set on November 12, 2018 in Cambodia. The boat in Yiyang has a total of 105 compartments and can accommodate 420 rowers. The boat is made of Chinese fir logs, each a diameter of 50 to 60 centimeters and a length of about 28 meters. Meticulously crafted by local shipbuilders, it underwent eight steps and took more than two months to complete. It was launched on the river in June 2023.

這條由北岸新村村民共同打造的雙橈龍舟,，刷新了2018年11月12日柬埔寨87.3米長龍舟的紀錄,。據(jù)悉，這艘雙橈龍舟共有105間倉,，可坐420名劃手,。采用直徑50至60厘米、長28米左右的杉木為原材料,，經(jīng)過8道工序,，歷時2個多月，由民間造船工匠精心打造,，于去年6月登江亮相,。
